Carrington Primary School

All Projects

RDLA is working with Bryant Alsop Architects on the landscape for a major upgrade to Carrington Primary School, with the project now under construction and scheduled for completion in 2026.

The landscape masterplan has been developed to create a connected, flexible and engaging outdoor learning environment across the school campus. The design brings together active play areas, outdoor classrooms, quiet seating spaces, shaded gathering zones, sensory gardens, productive garden beds and nature-based learning opportunities to support a diverse range of student activities throughout the day.

Cultural consultation with local Indigenous representatives has helped inform the landscape response, including opportunities to embed connection to Country, storytelling and locally meaningful planting within the school grounds. These ideas are reflected through spaces such as the sensory “bush garden”, indigenous planting areas, informal yarning and gathering spaces, and shaded outdoor learning areas that encourage students to engage with the landscape in different ways.

A key focus of the scheme is the creation of a strong central landscape that links new and existing buildings, improves circulation across the site and provides clear connections between learning, play and social spaces. The design includes new hard courts with line marking and coloured surface treatments, junior play spaces with climbing and balance elements, quiet refuge areas, a flexible outdoor stage, seating nooks, a chicken coop, vegetable garden and rock terracing. Together, these spaces create a varied campus landscape that supports active play, outdoor learning, social connection and moments of pause.

RDLA’s scope has included Landscape Masterplanning, Schematic Design and design development through to Construction Documentation, working collaboratively with Bryant Alsop Architects, the school community, local Indigenous representatives and the broader consultant team to support the delivery of the project on site.
